Marine Military Police Officers are responsible for preventing and suppressing a variety of crimes, preserving military control, quelling any disturbances, investigating offenses, apprehending offenders, and protecting property and other Marine Corps personnel.

Specific assignments for these Marines might also include providing flightline security, registering and controlling privately owned vehicles and weapons, investigating traffic accidents, controlling traffic, antiterrorism, handling and safeguarding prisoners of war, refugees, or evacuees, conducting small unit offensive and defensive combat operations, and supervising brig operations and correctional custody units..
