The Marine Corps ammunition and explosive ordnance disposal OccFld involves the locating, disarming, and disposing of hazardous materials or objects that could present significant danger to US Marines in the area of operation.
This field requires Marine personnel who are mature, mentally sound, and have displayed a willingness and capability to perform their assigned duties in a reliable manner. The duties require administrative, managerial, and extensive technical skills.
The ammunition technician handles, transports, and stores all type of ammunition, explosives, missiles, inspects materiel to determine serviceability and need for repair or destruction; the explosive ordnance disposal technician provides the commander with the capability to neutralize hazards associated with conventional explosive ordnance, weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and improvised explosive devices (IED); and conducts ordnance technical intelligence and dynamic explosive entry.
Marine Corps training for this field is quite tedious and requires the utmost commitment. Success in this field depends on these specialists’ teamwork and ability to work efficiently while under pressure in extreme situations.
